Jeffery Stockberger graduated from James Madison University with a degree in painting and art history, studied figure painting at the Corcoran Museum, College of Art and Design, and attended painting workshops with Jack Beal, Sandra Freckleton, and Fred Wessel in New York and Italy.  Previous work has included the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence in Berlin, the U.S. Senate Office, the Capital Building in Washington D.C. and various commissions in Annapolis, Chicago, Las Vegas, New York City, Santa Barbara and Miami.  His work has been published in Southern Accents, The Washington Post, Traditional Homes and D.C. House Magazine.  He is a working artist operating out of his studio in Port Republic, Virginia.

Mr. Stockberger’s paintings suggest a narrative for the figure while supporting the principles of composition and aesthetics.  His desire to paint the figure, compose more dynamic spaces, and, ultimately, develop a more expressive brushstroke has led him to the amorphous discipline of an indirect process.  This method allows content to arise from the erosion of the preconceived as one constantly defines, destroys, and reestablishes form.  Jeffery believes in considering all of art history and the study of the human figure as a basis for development of vital contemporary art.
