Artist Bio

I live in Staunton, Virginia, located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Staunton has a population of about 24,000, and it's a great place to live and visit.

I worked as a physician since 1980 in the field of radiology. It's no coincidence that radiology is an extremely visual field. I had the privilege of observing and analyzing images (in the early years, mostly in black and white, and later with a spot of color added) for hours on end.

My interest in art has been present since childhood. I doodled on all my notes throughout school, and I still do whenever I have a nifty black pen and a scrap of paper. In the past 17 years or so, I have taken many classes at the Beverley Street Studio School in Staunton, including drawing, painting in oil and watercolor, and printmaking. Whichever medium is at hand is my favorite. One of my most enjoyable art activities is taking painting trips with other artists to new locations for landscape painting, but I also do art at my kitchen table on subjects from pet and people portraits to abstract monotypes.

My work can be seen at this, the Co-Art Gallery in Staunton. I have also had work in multiple small venues for intimate displays such as several local restaurants, and hospital hallways, several juried shows, and some open shows such as the annual Bath County Art Show. I have participated in invitational show such as the Nelson Gallery in Lexington, Virginia, but my most memorable invitational shows were at The White House in 2001 and 2003.
