Janet Dance studied art at Rhode Island School of Design and has an M.A. in Humanities from Penn State and an M.B.A. from Xavier University .

Her paintings are inspired by daily observation of light and shadows playing on the rocks, creeks and forests on her property in Virginia . Abstracting these transitory moments using oils, cold wax and sometimes heat is her way of capturing those phenomena.
